Mt. Eboshigata, in Kitacho, was named for its unusual shape which resembles the formal headwear (eboshi) of nobles in the imperial court. On its summit are the ruins of Eboshigata castle, which was once one of seven owned by the Kusunoki family.Although these ruins are found at the center of an urban area, it is cloaked in a forest of Chinquapin, Japanese Red Pine, and Oak trees, and is also home to over 20 bird species including the Brown-eared Bulbul, Turtledove, and the Japanese White Eye.The area holds extreme importance as a wildlife and nature preserve.
